Geolocation on the map: Indonesia

L' Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (AITA code : CGK - ICAO code: WIII) is the main airport in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.

The airport was built by one of the French companies in partnership with Indonesians.

It was designed by the French architect Paul Andreu, who also designed Paris-Charles de Gaulle (Roissy) airport.

Inaugurated in 1985, it was named after Soekarno, First President of the Republic of Indonesia, and Hatta, First Vice-President. They were the ones who proclaimed the country's independence in 1945.

The airport is located 20 km west of Jakarta, to which it is connected by a highway. Indonesians call it more like Cengkareng, named after the district in which it is located.

In 2012, Soekarno-Hatta became the 9th largest airport in the world with nearly 58 million passengers. It was 12th in 2012 and 16th in 2010, and only entered the top 30 of the world's airports in 2009.

Soekarno-Hatta has also become the 3rd airport in Asia after Beijing and Tokyo-Haneda. It has thus overtaken Hong Kong, Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, Shanghai Pudong and Canton Baiyun.

Source: Airports Council International With an area of 1,800 hectares, it has two passenger terminals and a special terminal for pilgrims from Mecca and immigrant workers.

It is located in Cengkareng district, Kabupaten of Tangierang, Banten province.

Annual traffic at the airport CGK See the request on the Wikidata engine.

The decrease observed from 2012 to 2015 is due to the transfer of part of the traffic to Halim-Perdanakusuma airport.

Until 1972, Jakarta's civil traffic was based on the old Kemayoran airport, built by the Dutch in colonial times.

The growth in traffic has led the Indonesian authorities to transform the Halim Perdanakusuma air base into an international airport, with Kemayoran being reserved for domestic traffic.

Halim was only an intermediate solution until a new airport was built for Jakarta. Indeed, the development of Jakarta made Kemayoran landlocked in the city.

Soekarno-Hatta was inaugurated in 1985.

Soekarno-Hatta has 3 terminals:

A shuttle system connects the 3 terminals.

Terminal 1C consists of 3 parts: A, B and C. Its main user is Lion Air (A and B).

It was used by Adam Air and Linus Airways, which have ceased operations, and Tigerair Mandala, which has ceased domestic flights.

It will only be used by low-cost airlines[2]. Terminal 2F will be reserved for international flights. Thus on May 1, 2019:

On May 15, 2019, Jetstar Airways will move from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2F.

Citilink and Scoot Tigerair will do the same later[3]

The total theoretical capacity of terminals 1 and 2 is 18 million passengers per year. In 2012, Soekarno-Hatta handled nearly 58 million passengers. The first wing of a third terminal building was inaugurated on 15 April 2009, with a capacity of 4 million passengers per year.

This third terminal now has a capacity of 25 million passengers per year. Operations at this terminal began in August 2016. It hosts Garuda Indonesia's domestic and international flights. The other SkyTeam companies will set up there[4].
